Hal Goldberg Needs help

I am a marble sculptor in Orange County, California, and have a question I hope you can help me with. I am working with a piece of white marble and have found many small black spots imbedded in the marble, some as deep as 1 millimeter. Have you ever run into that problem and if so, any suggestions about how to remove them.

If the black spots are in the stone itself, I don't think there's any way to make them disappear. Marble was formed by the metamorphosis of a sedimentary limestone, and if little black particles settled in those sediments as they were deposited they are there forever. Either learn to live with them, grind them all out (if there's just a thin layer of them) or get another piece of marble.

Have to agree with Andrew. If you want absolutely white marble, would suggest one of the Italian marbles. Sorry don't have a better answer for you.
