Heres the tripod gantry at work putting Zag up in back in the yard after the show. I can assemble/disassemble alone (with much space around me) The removable pipes are 3" sched 80...the "crotch" is just made out of a bunch of cut-off pipes and scraps. It has a set of extension legs to go slide over at bottom if I need more height (up to 15 feet)and there are trusses that attach for extra heavy loads ...but I found that for such bottom-heavy pieces the 12 height, stripped-down version here works fine...as it can endure being smacked by the piece upon the final settling.
Zag will be going back out to another show in August. Til then...the neighbors can worry over lightning.

I dont know; they probably use your data to sell something or sell it to somebody...commercial crap I imagine. I just know I've been there for years without nary a peep of anything ever coming from it. Good place to put pics though for those with no website. You can link it to folks.

Its funny, the neighbors a re oblivious. They're friendly and never complain about anything (NOISE) but you'd think I was a plumber or something by their absolute DISinterest in all the crazy shit that goes on on the other side of the fence. But the properties are large...we're pretty separated by distance.

Yes Joe...I have trusses to install when the weight is enough that it might do that...joins them all midway down...but that limits what can happen underneath. The bigger problem is when the weight gets pulled off center and a leg starts to float...then you know everything is suddenly on 2 legs...always gotta be ready to run.

You could install pressure-sensitive alarms on the bottoms of the leg bases. Then if one lifts up unexpectedly, an ARRRUUUGAHHH!ARRRUUUGAHH! will give you the heads up!

A piece like this, in an environment like that.. suggests.....the production of a tree form ( with kinetic elements ) and certain madness.

The sooner you get this piece squeezed in a narrow alleyway the better.

Sites, environments, placings, placements...all the "where" that involves art is irrelevant. Solid work excludes everything around it...and with authority; provides an intimate experience...that echoes (distantly) the experience that brought it into being.

UNsolid work will lean on its place for support and wish to become significant by virtue of the dulldrum that was already there.

The placement of a piece effects the environment around it and the environment around a piece effects how a piece is perceived.

No work is solid.

Relevance and significance become irrelevant and insignificant.

One can only speculate at the origins that bring a piece into being.

The speculating is where the art is....call it imagination or interpretation. No, an "environment" is the most passive and incidental thing there is...not solid at all. The ARTifact (as opposed to the utility-ifact) radiates the singularity that made it. If a multiplicity made it...then it is something else. Not art.

My comment concerning the tree form was an attempt to address the issue.

If I see multiplicity in Zag...does that mean..it is not art ?
