Can you help?...suitable foams

Hi i wish to carve some sulptures in foam, to be used at a later date to be cast in bronze.
Can anyone advise as to the best foam product to use [ something that can be sanded smooth and have a fine surface finish] AND most imporatntly be available in Australia.

I take it you're talking about lost foam casting, then? If so, you'll want to use EPS (expanded polystyrene, AKA Styrofoam), which burns out better than polyurethane. The trade-off (there's always something, eh?) is that you can get polyurethane in smoother, higher densities than EPS, which is not to say EPS can't be had in high density, either. The thing is, the greater the density, the higher the price, too. You shouldn't have any trouble finding either in Australia.

i actually want to carve models so i can make a mould for waxes to the be cast in bronze [editioned] so i think polyurethane is what i need..do you know any suppliers of largish blocks suitable for carving?
say 4 ft high by 2 ft wide by 1 ft. deep?

Ah, I see. Yep, in that case, you'll want to use polyurethane. You should be able to find local suppliers in Australia, too. I do know of a supplier, but not in Australia: http://www.generalplastics.com/produ...7777b5f15c7499
