Rediscovering rollerblading. Funny how even some cheap protective gear can make you feel like an amazon, even if just a pavement amazon.

Visions of Evaldart dragging a chunk of I beam on a leash... nice puppy.
![]() Rika,I don't advise sharp weapons, just in case you have a sudden attack of "grace". i suggest a time-shifting mirror (non-breakable) that shows offending parties their school picture from when they were about 14 or 15. Will,... chuckleberry. ![]()

Re: What do ya all look like?
Not sure if a mirror would be an effective deterrent, I'm thinking of something more high-tech: a nerf gun like this one:
![]() http://nerfguns.org/nerf-n-strike-vulcan-ebf-25 Will, impressive palette. What made you switch to sculpture? |

I got tired of washing vandyke brown out of my hair. A fro is the most superior applicator in rendering foliage. Nappy little tree.
Thanks for asking. |

Rika,
finally got the nerf gun to come up. That would be special. I'd still have the mirror as a backup. You look like someone i know... ![]()

Re: What do ya all look like?
Me with my favorite painting. Yesterday at the Met. I went there specifically to look at that Canova Perseus again (decided it wasnt so great, afterall) and ended up right back at home with Pollock and Smith. Then went down to that crappy cafeteria in the basement and paid 19.00 for some crappy chiken and rice. The kids were into the mummies and the armor...which is a good sign.

Re: What do ya all look like?
Cool pic, too bad it's dark. How about the art? Did the kids like the Pollock? We're going to Montreal, mine will have to look at African and Pre-Colombian art.

Re: What do ya all look like?
They dont allow flashes...I generally play by the rules amongst the ants; especially in NYC where ther are so god-damned many of them.
Kids aint supposed to care about abstraction unless its their own. Many, many years of thinking might have them bother with it later...but maybe not. They'll always love the primitive...because it looks like their present handiwork. I am already regretting my daughter's departure from line and contour as she heads into figures and representation. Like us all, she has been claimed. It now will remain to be seen whether she ever recovers. |

Re: What do ya all look like?
I came upon this great 'thread' yesterday. I'm wondering where so many of these sculptors have gone. Did something happen here that put off some of them? Does anyone have an idea about this? Thanks.

Re: What do ya all look like?
There is a thread... Out with the Old... somewhere on here that addresses this very thing. I started the thread. I haven't met you, hello, I am a sculptor/painter from south Georgia.

Re: What do ya all look like?
Hello Scout...I see that a number of people still post here but a bunch seemed to have moved on and I'm curious as to what took place in the last few years to diminish the posters on this site...you say" out with the old", fine; but what happened in your opinion? Did the forum lack energy, did people fear showing their stuff? ( I apologise for the size of the accompanying picture of the head of my Sumo but I don't know how to reduce it to a respectable size.)
www.demcdermott.com (or how to put it beside my name like others have done.) Last edited by Mack : 08-21-2010 at 01:19 PM. |

Some folks think that time is valuable. When in fact its the most plentiful thing you got. Thats all.

Re: What do ya all look like?
Hi Mack, I don't know why we have slowed up so much. I used to come here everyday but so many have moved to facebook that I went there to hook up with them. I still come here too. Mostly here if you want information it's best just to go to the archives. Search for what you are interested in knowing. This site really puts the pressure on to think out of the box. I avoid most of the fray because I am not into pushing anyone. But I do get inspired watching others yank each others chains. It is still a worthwhile place to come. No empty pats on the back.
Is your Sumo bronze... cold or hot? You do good work. Scout |

Re: What do ya all look like?
Hello Scout,
Thanks for the kind word. You're right about the amount of info in the Threads. I just started looking at some of them and came upon yours. It was striking to see how many folks have moved on or perhaps just don't post. I've been extremely fortunate with my bronzes for the last 15 years or so. The galleries were doing well and I was always trying to catch up, but that's all changed here now in the US; at least where my kind of sculpture is concerned. People are rightly concerned where all this is going with the lack of jobs etc. and the middle class art market has dwindled. The Sumo piece is just now in bronze and was a piece I did for my son as a surprise wedding gift.(if I could figure out how to reduce it enough for this site, I'd put the whole jpeg photo up.)
