Re: Artistic goals of nude sculpture
I don't see eroticism in many figurative sculptors' work. If it makes its way into the figure, it is very much detectable and it seems to be at odds with achieving more than just that: eroticism. The statement seems almost silly when I think of Giacometti, Michelangelo or Ron Mueck. I think it's an interesting mix when it is present not as a primary goal or concern, but an accompanying means, such as I see in Javier Marin's work.

Re: Artistic goals of nude sculpture
Who knows what one might find "erotic"? Anything and everything I suppose. Yet I do suppose that art that is too intended to affect in a "sexual" manner is no better than any other illustrative or narratively suffering composition. Nude has nothing to do with eroticism. It has everything to do with gesture, anatomy and proportion...and its effectiveness is not at all so severely limited to the mere "erotic".
