![]() Today, while trying to research a bit more about the "Urethane vs Silicon molds" issue being discussed in another thread, I made a call to Polytek. I asked to talk to Mike, who worked doing research on mold making, casting and related issues. I was told that Mike had been killed in an accident.
I met mike during a mold making course a few years back and would periodically call, or e-mail for advise. Mike made a terribly strong impression on me. He was very kind, and extremely knowledgeable about casting and mold making. He consistently went out of his way to help answer any questions, and provided amazing answers. I feel great sadness knowing that Mike is gone. Mike aka Mold Man Mike, joined our community on 3/23/09 and was an active participant until his last day of life. Here is a link to his obituary Ari. |

Re: Mold Man Mike - RIP
Sorry to hear of Mike's passing, he was a very knowledgeable guy and gave his expertise freely to anyone who asked. He was definitely the "go to guy" for mold making, casting and related issues.
mold man Mike, may you RIP. Jeff |

Re: Mold Man Mike - RIP
Sad news indeed. I never met Mike in person but we had a few exchanges on Facebook after I arranged for Polytek to do a seminar at the college where I teach. It took me bit to realize he was THE Mold Man from Sculpture.net. (which I thought was pretty cool - like meeting a celebrity).
RIP Mold Man Mike. |

Re: Mold Man Mike - RIP
Is anybody who had contact with Mike going to put a message on the funeral home's website? A message from the forum might be nice.

Re: Mold Man Mike - RIP
While I never met him, I felt like I knew him through this forum. Yes, his replies were always kind and helpful, and he definitely knew his stuff. He'll be missed.
It's sad to lose a friend. Even though he was a virtual pal, known through text read on a screen rather than in a more physical sense, I feel a palpable sense of loss, as if there's a vacant place at the table. If we as a group are composing some kind of a tribute, count me in. Andrew Werby www.computersculpture.com |

Re: Mold Man Mike - RIP
Today I spoke with one of Mikes friend. I called to get some advice related to this post. My question was whether he thought that sending something (letters, etc.) to the close of kin would be a good idea at this time, or whether it would cause more suffering. He thought that since this accident happened a couple of months ago we should probably refrain from possibly re-opening wounds.
I would have liked to send the family a note telling them about all the nice qualities that Mike had and how well he was perceived in these circles. Perhaps one day, in the distant future they will find this forum and realize the large sphere that was touched by Mike. I also think that I would not like to risk adding sadness to the family. Ari. |
