Public Art Controversy in Corpus Christi, TX

ISC member Michael Manjarris is actively involved bringing visible outdoor work to Corpus Christi. He worked with Mark DiSuvero to install a work at the local art museum just last month.

Yes, that is a very interesting link.

It also points to a critical flaw in funding mechanisms for art when one person overtly attempts to control public opinion and policy because he prefers a unified theme based on traditional Spanish architecture.

We all confront those with small-minded or self-centered viewpoints in one way or another.

As Michael said,

"The work that I am putting out there in the next year or two, in 20 years will look old and not out of date but kind of classic," Manjarris said. "I mean, my God, how many people hated the Beatles? Now they're elevator music."

Time marches on, and mostly people don't change their minds, they just die off, and a different and often opposite viewpoint becomes the newly established norm.
