I suppose the cans have to be fastened to each other. This is a 20 ft sculpture. If you were to do this job, what method would you use to fasten them?

Actually this sculpture is made up of Coca-Cola cans as well as bottles. Below is a picture of this sculpture from a different angle, taken from here.

This is another empty Coke can sculpture, in support of the same recycling week.

This one would need even better fastening of the cans. I still cannot figure out what method the artist use to do it. Anybody with good suggestions?

These are really nice. I think i would try to find some sort of punching/ riveting tool to put them together. If they are old, then they are of light steel right?
Or tin perhaps. Then I would solder them with a small torch. But needless to say which ever method, will take lots of patience and time.

These soft drink cans are made of thin aluminum sheet.

They are too think for welding.

To fasten thin aluminum sheets, one way is to use blind rivets. But I think this would not work with these cans. There is no space to put in a rivet gun to pop the rivets.

Yet another way is copper ring rivet (not the proper name). If one end of the cans is cut and removed, there may just be enough space.
