![]() Any imput on this situation?:
I got a commission to do 1 piece through my dealer. I am doing all the negotiating as far as price and logistics for installation, shipping, etc. This may lead to a series of similar pieces for a corporate client. questions: 1)What is a normal percentage for a commission facilitated by a dealer but handled mostly by the artist? 2) What about subsequent commissions related to the first? Is it common for the percentage to be less? If so, how much less? Any other comments. suggestions? Thanks. |

Commissions
For me it usually relates to the size of the project. The larger the project and the more you are working with the end-client the less money you should need to pay in a commission.
Large commissions of 40-50% seem to be the unfortunate norm in the sale of works for the lower price ranges. 10-15% would be in the reasonable range for a larger work. For future sales, try to negotiate to pay half of the original commission, or nothing if they do nothing, depending on your relationship with the broker. If they really didn't do anything and you made the contact and the sale then they shouldn't get a commission.
