Wendy Lehman is part of a three woman show at the Rice Gallery at the Albany Institute of History and Art.
The show is curated by Janis Dorgan (in conjunction with THE BEATLES:NOW AND THEN, photographs by Harry Benson).

"Lehman's larger than life painted aluminum sculpture (is) part totem, part figure, part nature . . . all vibrant and alive."

Two-day symposium focused on the insularity of the art world and how curators, institutions, galleries, dealers, and artists are complicit in structuring an alternate world based upon self-interest. A goal for ArtPace Conversations 03 is to strip away constructs that impede contemporary art from having a broader reach.

10:00 AM -- 12:00 PM Panel devoted to exploring the disturbing divide between today's most ambitious visual art practices and acceptance by general audiences. Moderated by Robert Storr, Professor of Modern Art at New York University and former curator of contemporary art at The Museum of Modern Art, New York. Participants include Hans Ulrich Obrist, Curator at the Musée d'art Moderne de la Ville de Paris and Thelma Golden, Deputy Director for Exhibitions and Programs at The Studio Museum in Harlem, NY.

2:00 -- 4: 00 PM Panel examining how value is assigned in the art world and the way in which it is similar to other human-made markets and information systems. Moderated by Eleanor Heartney, professor, author, and contributing editor to Art in America and Artpress. Panelists include Iñigo Manglano-Ovalle, artist.

4:15 -- 5:00 PM Closing remarks

6:30 -- 8:30 PM Celebratory party at ArtPace, 445 North Main Avenue, San Antonio (open to public)

The Empire Theater was designed by architects Mauran, Russell & Crow of St. Louis in 1913. After a long decline, the Empire closed its doors in 1978 and ten years later, the City of San Antonio bought the decaying theatre and restored it to its original luster. In April 1998, it was reopened as the Charline McCombs Empire Theatre, and in1999 the theater was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
