I saw Eric Beaudry from La Bottine Souriant in 1997 at Wolf Trap when he was performing in a two-person band called Les Freres Brunette. They were a side stage act who got called to fill in on the main stage while the event planners stalled for the headliner Capercaillie (I think). There was a huge thunderstorm going through the area (hence the delay of Capercallie).

To this day I have never seen a greater performance. These two guys (one on a fiddle and Eric on mandolin, singing and tapping his feet – nothing else) tore up the stage amid thunder and lightning. They did a rendition of Yo-Yo Verret that had the entire audience roaring in chorus. Amazing – especially since I am usually too reserved to get overly participatory during these kinds of things. I remember they made the headliners look pale in comparison.

This morning, at rosy red dawn, I was in the hot tub, listening to this at high volume-
I managed to get the two bald eagles sitting in the tree to sing along- they were immature eagles, but then, so am I.

Arrington throat sings the poetry of Blake, in Indonesian, with a band that sounds like a re-formed Gang of Four with Captain Beefheart sitting in on sax.
I have seen him do this live a couple of times, and the crowd goes wild- everybody is uncontrollably dancing.
