Advice on using wood/mount to model/paint on....
Hello,
I am making 2.5d flatty work, I want to put a bit of model paste on wood, then paint the model paste with Molotow pens (I love these, check them out if you don't know about them!) At the moment I am using these- http://www.artistcraftsman.com/canva...ng-panels.html However, I would also like to look at others options for the wood, can I just buy birch panels from a timber store and gesso them? Could be a cheaper option and the depth will be a lot less, might be an interesting look. Any ideas would be great. Thanks, James. |

Re: Advice on using wood/mount to model/paint on....
That might work. The issue would be how well the paste adheres to the wood as the moisture in it cycles from dry to humid and back.
To give yourself the best shot at it sticking, try attaching some galvanized mesh to the board, with spacers in between so it's not flat against the wood. Then when you apply the paste, it can get a good grip in back of the wire. This will take more paste, but it should ensure adhesion. Andrew Werby Juxtamorph.com |

Thanks Andrew.
I am only going to use a small amout of paste in certain areas, other areas will just have the wood. The past will be no more than 1 cam high at the very most. Are you sure I should use gauze for that little paste? Thanks, James. |

screw in small screws where you want the paste then apply past over screw. The screw will act as an anchor securing the paste firmly

That sounds like a good solution for small areas. Leave the heads of the screws sticking up a little, so the paste can key in behind them.
