Encaustic patina on plaster
Has anyone used encaustic as a patina for work cast in plaster.
Which would be the best plaster (hydrostone or hydrocal) and is encaustic a suitable medium. Any info welcome |

Hot wax paint? I just use thinned latex paints, and alkyd paints on hydrocal, though these days I get Densite plaster which mercifully comes in 50# bags and can be shipped cheaply enough from Minneapolis to me. |

Re: Encaustic patina on plaster
Wax can certainly work pretty well on plaster. Wax paste, with or without pigment is good for sealing the surface and, when buffed can achieve an effect not unlike marble. You can also build up wax to get more surface texture, obviously wax isn't the most rugged medium so there is always a risk that thick layers will chip off or even melt.
What is very important is that the plaster is bone dry, any wax based medium won't stick at all well to damp plaster. |
