Barn Owl Almost there
Finally finished the patina for my barn owl. Not sure about it myself, may redo it. What do you think?

Re: Barn Owl Almost there
I think you did a superb job on the owl. It seems a bit monochromatic in the photographs, but then, they are just photographs and can't recreate the experience of looking at the actual owl—and besides; I am drawn to colorful sculpture, even though that sort of thing is frowned upon by those who are really supposed to know. I wonder what color barn owls are in the wild. Are they brown? Or do they have any blues or greens or yellows?

Re: Barn Owl Almost there
In the juvenile bird the lightest colour n the sculpture would be white, the other colours are fairly accurate. Ive always struggled to create a white using my traditional techniques, unless I was to cold paint it. Which I dont like to do as it removes the metallic look, in which case it might as well be plastic.
The adult bird goes almost pure white whilst still retaining a hint of the dark markings on the wings Ive since mounted it on a black marble base https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...4&l=1b777f88c7 |

Re: Barn Owl Almost there
Looks good, unless you were striving for another look with the patina. It works.

Re: Barn Owl Almost there
Thank you both.
I was thinking of experimenting more with the patina but it has grown on me with time and I think I will stick with it |
