Art & Political Economy
Great article. Great concept. I love reading about alternative sales and marketing strategies for selling art. Artists need to come up with as many resources and gimicks as they can to get by. This one is amazing because of the incredible affordability of the work, and yet an attractive and perhaps workable sales mechanism.
I would be interested to see if there would be response to a call for alternative business models for art sales. It would make a great curatorial stance for a museum show. Artists like Surang Kusalwai and others who have done street sales, etc. would be appropriate. There are lots of historical examples like Claes Oldenburg's storefront operation and Andy Warhol's factory.
