MINISCULE London June 2010

so am helping to run this show and contributing some mini bronzes.

MINISCULE is a show of tiny pieces, no particulat genre, no hierachy.. smaller is better possibly.. this is the ''press release''Miniscule could be regarded as a bijou sociological experiment. It is a fine arts exhibition in the sumptuously grandiose Oblong gallery where up to a thousand object d’art can be shown simultaneously. Artists across London, Britain and the World have been invited to submit a diminutive object of any genre or media with but one simple proviso: Max size is of the common matchbox, 2” by 1.5”.
Thinking small is a unique challenge, although many artists specialize in the miniature or consider it part of their normal output, most invitees will find this an intriguing challenge from normal practice.
So we can expect a very diverse show with many new and strange artists, a toy box destruction derby of high concept in abject competition, a kaleidoscope cross cut of current making and thinking but one set in an equal arena, although admittedly
it may be slightly biased towards the ‘less is more camp’.
So, is an object to be judged by its size? Can we say that the statue of liberty has more impact on the art world than a bicycle wheel? Well this is the weeny wheel, so it’s gotta be better right?

Miniscule is also an answer to financial stagnation in our brave
new world, all objects for sale to the public are 200 quid whether constructed from bronze, spit, oil, pencil or fraying elbows. We hope it keeps this fine rectilinear gallery perpendicular, that it may serve its honourable stance long into the future for London’s vibrant up and coming art scene. Long live Oblong!
