When I was about 15, at high school art class we had a title
'all things bright and beautiful'
I found a photo of an atomic bomb test in the Arizona desert and made a coloured pencil sketch of that. lol.

Perhaps they thought I was using inituative by adapting boring run of the mill titles they gave to their pupils year after year.

bright and beautiful

I agree------both are present in a mushroom cloud and nuclear blast

beauty can be horrifying
when one has knowledge of the consequences

Lightning and thunderstorms and raging floods have a beauty all their own

If you get a chance check out the TED lecture series, lots of interesting stuff there. Anyway here is Denis Dutton and his take on the evolutionary nature of beauty. He even explains why technical skills are important.
