Public sculpture of Sao Paulo

I just stumbled across this rather incredible project that some anonymous person has been making for the public sculpture of his/her home town.

I've yet to see anything quite like it -- because the blogger appears to be a completist -- i.e. he includes everything -- from the amateurish bust of a local writer found in a small library - to the incredible sculptural program that Luiz Brizzolara made for the government center.

And everything is presented with multiple views -- sometimes a dozen (apparently for the ones he liked most)

All styles of 20th C. sculpture are included -- from classical and Romantic to completely non-figurative.

(Note: in recent posts, he's put all the photos on FLICKR -- and just has a link to them on his blog)

It's kind of exhausting to go through it all -- but not as exhausting as it must have been for the photographer while trekking beneath the hot sun.

And nothing makes white marble look quite so good as lush tropical foliage growing behind it.

Let's hope that other great cities of the world soon get the same treatment.

Heres three more- each is a labor of love, unpaid work by individuals, so each is a bit different, idiosyncratic, and incomplete, but all are interesting nonetheless.

Thankyou! --- now I've got my work cut out for me.

These websites - idiosyncratic as they must be - can be so much better than published books on the subject -- since there is no limit to the number and size of pictures being shown.

(and I was especially interested in Philadelphia!)
