Windfall

Well I sold my entire series of "Seven Deadly Sins". Just got back from installing the first two on the property of a collector in Upstate New York. I will be re-approaching/reinterpreting a new Greed which was recently sold seperatly to someone else and executing Lust presently. I should have them all installed hopefully before the big snows hit.
Big presents for evryone this Christmas! Some new tools/toys for the studio and I'm even considering replacing the f-350 (though it won't be easy - its been so hard working and loyal. Tough shoes to fill).
The good side of the "feast or famine" life...the feast part.

Re: Windfall

Way to go, bucko! Hope they're well appreciated. You might want to try a new companion series, " Seven Uncompromising States of Obediant Conformism."

Its good that you are feeling generous for Christmas. You don't need to send me anything larger than a card, however. Just attach it to the back of a pre-fabricated 2,000 square foot free-standing studio with 12 foot tall walls, steel trussed 6:12 pitched roof with skylights, and an infrared forced air heating system to Glenn c/o......

Re: Windfall

Now hold up Evaldart.........just cause you sold some work and have some money coming your way doesn't mean you get to go hog wild and enjoy yourself. Maybe a tool or two ( Craig's list ), perhaps some new pads for your wheels, of course a good Christmas for the wife and kids.......then the rest goes into savings and your rainy day fund. Right ?

Next thing you know times will be lean again. Stretch your dollar.

Otherwise........Well Done.

Re: Windfall

I've always known this day would come for you and your pieces and I'm very pleased. Get that new 350 for yourself, the other stuff can wait. Perhaps some day we will get to see the virtues, I'm still working on them myself.

It's a truly magnificent series, the sins and I look forward to seeing Lust in all her specious glory. Sampson Agonistes is a great read by Milton to get you in the spirit. Delilah's lust and yearning to be celebrated among her people at the cost of betraying her husband are excellent examples packed full of raw imagery.

Bravo my friend!

Re: Windfall

Thanks, Usually winters are slow for me, but this ones taken care of...and I'm all too aware that dry spells are part of this studio artists life. Thats why the wife handles the money.
But I'll miss the sculptures. They've been watching my every pertinent move for years. While it will be good to see the whole group together in a final destination I never did get that "big show" with them. I ain't complaining though. Just basking for awhile.

Re: Windfall

Congratulations Evaldart. The whole series sold.!! This will be a good Christmas. You'll miss these seven deadly sins of yours. So enjoy.

In this thread you posted in March 2007, are these two a part of these seven?

I.A i don't know how anyone could be jealous.

If anything they should be inspired.

The only jealous ones will be the guy's neighbors!!!!!!

Re: Windfall

Successes in our area of occupation arrive often unforseen. As do the failures. A month ago I had already decided to squeak another winter out of a three year olf pair of Redwings. Things changed and now I'm kickin' tires down at the Ford dealership (pre-owned).
I have been confused sometimes by successes I have seen in the careers of others...baffled even, but jealousy or envy would imply a desire to be in another's place. And I have always only ever wanted to be exactly who and where and what I was.
Trips through Chelsea and other contemporary art power districts should only offer-up inspiration and encouragement - as you're always sure to see plenty of work that is succeeding that you feel is far inferior to your own. Walk away with a smile fully realizing how easily this loopy business could indeed take a turn in your favor.
The jealousy drools from the lips of the bitter and the soured - harnessing their individuality and contaminating their product. It presupposes the unattainable. It is rotten.

Evaldart
Congratulations those sales are hard won and well deserved. Do you have a picture of all seven pieces? I followed Merlions lead to Gluttony and Greed but I would love to see the others, perhaps you have a photo of them installed to share with us.

Well done, I raise my glass to your Windfall
Regards Blake

Re: Windfall

Blake, 6 of them are on my site, evaldart.com, I've yet to make the seventh (Lust) which is presently underway. Also, I have to re-interpret Greed as I recently sold that one seperate from the others. It all has me considering another figurative series very undecided at this point.
