New sculpture for Glasgow Harbour

Normally a picture of the sculpture is not released for publication before unveiling. Apparently this one is, although not a good photo.

The sculpture seems nice. But I can't see how it symbolises modernity rising from the city's maritime past.

New sculpture for Glasgow Harbour

May 21, 2008. A six-metre high sculpture featuring the head and body of a woman with propeller-like arms is due to be unveiled at Glasgow Harbour.


The work, "Rise", is said to symbolise modernity rising from the city's maritime past.

It was created by Andy Scott, the sculptor responsible for the Clydesdale horse on the M8. ...

Fantastic work. A beautiful figure. It slightly troubles me that in essence it's a tall figure with wings for arms (remind you of anything?).

Nevertheless I like it.

This news link below has another picture and a video.

The sculpture is made of galvanised steel, light can shine through especially the wings. What I don't like is the head-dress.

Dreadful - really dreadful. But I do like Limecutter's work. Absolutely beautiful. So, how can we agree and disagree like this?
