does anyone know of inexpensive general liability insurance....I am supposed to place a sculpture in a town park and they're require me to cover this kind of insurance, but my insurance agent is quoting me $600. surely there's something for artists which is more reasonable? help!

Re: know about insurance for sculpture exhibits?

That sounds like they are selling you a standard business policy with the standard bells & whistles. $600+/year is what I pay for a general business policy that covers slip& fall on my property, general liability, and a whole host of other insurance issues.

Ask the insurance agent if you can get a rider to your current homeowners policy. If $600/year is the price of the rider, find out the cost of a general business policy with general liability included. If you are to continue in exterior sculpture doings, you should have one as a general rule.

If you get a general business policy as above, see if they can give you a combined rate for both business & home owners or car insurance. Worth a call for that discount.

I agree with Carl. I have an annual group insurance policy for my studio, which is $500+tax/year. The liability insurance for a single show is a rider...I don't remember the rider costs, but it was less than $100.

I use the RLI Insurance Company, 9025 North Lindbergh Drive, Peoria, Il 61615. A $1,000,000.00 Business owners Policy covering general liability and medical expenses is less than $500.00 per year. Check it out.

I use Westfield Insurance. Have used them for forever. Great people.

Carl

ps. I only pay them premiums. Do not get a kickback for people who get a policy from them.
