Selected as Finalist in two Public Sculpture Competitions

Brad Bourgoyne and I teamed up for two public sculpture competitions and were just recently notified that we have been selected as top five finalists for the Abraham Lincoln Monument in Kentucky and as top three finalists for the Toledo Ohio Fire Fighters Memorial. These are both really exciting public sculptural projects and we will be doing presentations to these committees, the first in mid-June and the second one in mid-July.

We'll let you know how it goes!

Congratulations, Berinje'. That is fantastic news. Very exciting. I don't know about the second monument. The first one sounds very significant. Do keep us posted of any further news and the outcome.

Re: Selected as Finalist in two Public Sculpture Competitions

Thanks, Merlion. The fire fighter memorial is actually larger than the Lincoln one, but it is an honor to be considered for either of them! You need to jump through a lot of hoops to get large public sculpture commissions, but it can be very satifying if successful. So we're keeping our fingers crossed and going for it

Berinje', congratulations on your achievements. That is quite an honor indeed! I haven't been on a lot, it was nice seeing that you won that possibility. Is your mind boggled? Tell us as you proceed...I'll definitely keep this thread on my notification. Good Luck! Scout

Congrats! And if you get chosen for both, you can just stick a fireman's helmet on Lincoln (kidding!).

Re: Selected as Finalist in two Public Sculpture Competitions

Thanks, Julianna, Blacksun, and DesertRock for your positive thoughts! We did our presentation for the Young Lincoln Memorial on June 19th and they said they would notify us of the winner on or around July 1st. It was fun meeting the other sculptors/teams for lunch after the presentations and we also had the opportunity to see their maquettes. The people on the Kentucky public arts committee were very welcoming and warm, which made the presentation less stressful. Brad and I felt very good about our maquette and site plan model and design. I definitely feel that Brad's site plan was the most original, inspired and powerful, but we'll see what the committee has decided very soon

We do our presentation for the Toledo Fire Fighters Memorial on August 2nd. So of course we are busy putting maquettes and the presentation together. Lots of work, certainly hope it pays off!

Re: Selected as Finalist in two Public Sculpture Competitions

Ditto! We'd like to know too. They haven't informed us yet and no new postings on their website--just that they would post the winner in July--so I guess not by July 1st afterall. The waiting and waiting is gruesome.

I'll let you know as soon as I find out anything.

Love and Light,
Paula
