Re: Ercan Yaren's Relief Works - talk About me!

Welcome, Yaren. I like your work, and I looked at about a dozen of your images, scattered across the list. I see at least the last two images include you as artist, and that is a good way to sort of meet you.

Your compositions remind me at least somewhat of Rodin’s “Doors of Hell”, with male and female figures in different scales, in many different poses. The figures all are bold, and that makes the compositions strong. The crossing lines add to the strength of composition, and also the unfinished sections.

What is your material? It seems to be very spongy, filled with small holes. Is that a pumice (volcanic stone)?

I really like the Picaso-esqu on with the face in squares; you’re also pictured in it. Also I like the last link above. Both of these pieces are fresh and it feels like have more of you in them.

I also like the cubist relief and it has a more finished feel to it.

These all are good works, and I think your later, apparently larger works are better. They show the advantage of experience. Of these 4 early works, I like the “big portrait” best. The hair in the portrait is similar to the Sun (?) In your later works, and I find that radiating flow to be a strong feature in several of your pieces.

The only difficulty I see with this Big Portrait is that it is made of many small blocks, and these do not fit together smoothly. Everyone has to learn technique, and to get around problems like these. Your later work shows that you have learned much with experience. Congratulations!
