Tim Hawkinson exhibit

In RuBert's weblog, which can be found in the thread on The Gates (Christo) installation, he posted a link to an intriguing show of Tim Hawkinson's work. It's kind of buried, so I'm repeating the link here.
The images shown on the Whitney Museum's site may leave you mystified since they can't really depict the work clearly. In real life they range drastically in scale, some include sound and motion, are surprisingly original in the use of common materials and fascinate most viewers in a way that a lot of contemporary art does not. Olafur Eliasson is the only other artist who comes to mind with regard to Hawkinson's ability to entice and satisfy a wide range of viewers. Both do work that targets the characteristics that make us human.
My point being that if Tim Hawkinson shows in your area, it would be well worth your effort to go. The Whitney exhibit is in New York until May and a good catalogue has been produced, then it travels to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Also at the Whitney is a wonderful Bill Viola video installation. I find a lot of video installations difficult, but Bill Viola's are mesmerizing.
