ancient stones

Hello all,
just back from 10 days cycling round the south of Ireland with up close inspections of neolithic rock art, dolmens, standing stones and stone forts. delighted to see that we've broken the 500 member mark and that there are many new posts to catch up on.

Those pictures just fuel my desire to visit Ireland. It reminds me of my homeland, New Zealand.

both stones are of the neolithic period {1000- 3000 bc or thereabouts} the one on the left is a standing stone located in county cork, the one on the right is a kerbstone from newgrange. both are found on local ordnance survey maps. this part of the world is littered with extraordinary examples of man's relationship to stone. both images are courtesy of Diego Meozzi/Stone Pages which houses an exhaustive survey of ancient sites from around europe, definitely worth a visit.

I had a girlfriend from County Cork way back when I live in London for a time. Mary. She had long dark hair and such a thick accent (for the ears of a young mug from the colonies anyway), and was beautiful. Mary Costello I think it was.

I wonder what became of her....

Oh wait, that may have been County Claire.

I had a friend from county cork when I was younger...

In college I took a year of Gaelic...still pretty proficient too

I'd love to get a chance to use it.

How nice! Those pictures remind me Britain (east of france) where I often spend a few days in the summer.
2 additional sites that I advice stone-lovers to visit :
