back from SHIDONI

Just returned from SHIDONI............
The expected "show" didn't happen, and the director not surprising "left" the day before it was supposed to happen. These things happen. I do have a good relationship with the owner, and my 6 piece installation went well anyway, thanks to a great deal of aid from the staff.

Actually, the steel plate was 3/8", not 1/2" as i had remembered.

Here are shots of 3 of the pieces:

Re: back from SHIDONI

John,
These are intriguing forms and I think that imploding geometric form is becoming your signature (as is curving hefty plate!). Is there a name for the geometric form of the red one? Are they both steel? What kind of paint and primer do you use? How do you bend them?
I like the spaces they enclose.

Sorry the 'show' collapsed, but your work looks great. What holds that sheet form upright? Hidden footings? Is it painted or oiled?

Re: back from SHIDONI

The sheet does have buried footings! Steel lightly hand sanded and coated with WD40......

John, I would really like to see photos of the other three pieces. What is going to be the final finish on Anticline? I was at Shidoni the week before you were there. The people and the vibes were really great and positive. I wonder what went wrong with your show? I took a few photos if anyone is curious. Joe

Re: back from SHIDONI

What went wrong was that the current director ( a very nice lady who very much liked my work) had an overdose of personal problems and let things slide. It was a "mutual" decision that friday would be her last day. I had been having problems communicating with her for a couple of months, and suspected that something was up.

It is a great foundry/gallery/sculpture garden owned by Tommy Hicks since the early seventies, and he is an incredible person and artist! Frankly, this is what I consider the very best venue for for my art. Director turnover is just one of those things, and happens for whatever reason to the best of galleries.

Nuf said.........
