Torchdown Jesus?

A giant sculpture of Jesus Christ with its arms in a "touchdown" position was struck by lightning and burned Monday night. The six-story piece was made from fiberglass, wood and foam on a steel armature, which makes it rather unsurprising, although it stood in front of the "Solid Rock" church. The insurance company is calling it an "act of God" (in his capacity as Omnipotent Critic, no doubt)...

Here's the story, from the Christian Science Monitor:

personally, I like the name "butter jesus" better, though neither name really touches on just how glaring a monument it was.
Oh yeah, and the sculptor said it was constructed just like other amusement park props.(I may be paraphrasing slightly there)

well now it's complete... the song

A similar event happened here in Utah last year, when lightning struck the trumpet of the statue of Morroni which is located on top of the spire of a newly built Mormon Temple.

Re: Torchdown Jesus?

It would be nice if those obnoxious horns at the World Cup were silenced, although thats asking a bit much for lightning.

Is that in reference to blowing up "The Thinker"? That's kinda funny and sad at the same time.
