I am a bit surprised vandalism of such charity cow sculptures can be so prevalent in Edinburgh which I remember is a nice tourism art city. See below, both taken from the BBC.

Vandals have attacked fibreglass cows in Edinburgh the day after they went on display as part of a public art project.

The cows were hand-painted by local artists and placed around the city as part of the CowParade project.

Sad tale of the vanishing 'cow'

A cow sculpture which is part of a public art project in Edinburgh has gone missing.

Kathryn Pennel, from Dunfermline, is devastated after the cow she designed for arts event CowParade disappeared.

The 12-year-old was the winner of a Lloyds TSB Scotland competition to design a cow for the parade, which raises money for charity.

The fibreglass cow, one of 94 in the capital, was outside the bank's Hanover Street branch.

At the weekend, it was vandalised and was due to be repaired but bank staff found it had vanished by Wednesday. [snip]

Holy cow! Just this past week here in St. Louis,MO another one of those painted cows was stolen. The people manufacturing those cows really get around. Seems that some kids had taken it. They caught them and the cow came home.

This CowParade show has not come to Singapore, but apparently it has gone to many cities, mainly in US and Europe, according to its website.

I find it difficult to understand the nature of this organisation. It seems to be successful. The charity autions at the end of the city shows have raised a lot of money, $ 3m from its Chicago aution. And it seems to have raised the general public interest in visual art. Perhaps some of you may know more.

And perhaps vandalism of these cows, like that done to the Copenhagen mermaid, is a calculated evil that even help to increase media publicity on them.

Well, no major vandalism on the Brussels cows, Luxemburg cows, neither Beirut cows during past years.
No major vandalism yet in Paris this year.
Just some tags or bad kids games to be mentionned. Shamely, just like on any public art....

Well, I was pretty much amazed by the following fact:
We work with a bunch of friend on an industrial zone of Paris which is a decomissionned railroad station formerly used by passangers then by industrial goods.
It has become the territory of the taggers and graphers because there are huge walls and surfaces to be painted.
We exhibit our sculpture there on a big concrete loading zone 100 meters long which is a big part of their territory, and never once a single sculpture has been tagged or graphed.
But it seems that it's a different story for some temporary exhibitions in Paris.

There's something interesting in there... Taggers and graphers respect somehow some pieces located somewhere but not others...

PS: for those who want to come and have a look, we're opening up an exhibition there for two weeks next week! we'd be really glad to meet anyone from the community there.

I'll be in Paris by may 30th, will the exhibition open already? If not I might be back by june 7th.
