I think that kinetic art is a good discipline for sculptors as it encourages a rigor and attention to detail which a lot of contemporary art seems to be missing.

As another poster mentioned it imposes a very definite standard of success of failure which, I think, is a very healthy thing for artists to have to deal with now and again.

In more general terms I'm very keen on sculpture which has at least some relationship with a specific practical purpose.
