Explorer goes to Baltimore

The Explorer will be watching over Charles street in Baltimore for a year. Installation shots from yesterday. Good folks involved, a generous honorarium and theres always a chance for a sale during these gigs. 14 hours on the road, back home now looking forward to tomorrow's mangling.

O, you have poisoned yourself...your view of what is and isnt Art is indeed as valid as anyone elses; but your desire to belittle others' efforts only ever assures you, as you look inside yourself, that you havent really even begun to make any personal progress (as a human...let alone an artist). Stifled by self-pity and lack of achievement, you have come to that lowly place where dirty little comforts are taken at the expense of all those who are doing what you can no longer do, create. You maybe once had some things going...but now, old, depleted and permanently embittered, theres nowhere else to go but HERE; to a cyber-place where your sissy attacks raise the ire of a few participators. Its the height of your (im)potence...and downhill from there. Perhaps some books will help you. They are light and small and close-able. Could lift your spirits. You're gonna have to start ALL over, my friend...at existing.

Oh, and theres no need for anyone to delete anything. Its all part of our exchange here. Let them be what they are. O, when you post here I'll be sure to preserve it quoted so you can re-read yourself forever...and always know who you are.

Too funny!.. It is NOT a guitar,... this is NOT a pipe and so on.. Lessons from the past again..

Belittling.. Let me think about this for a moment.. I think as Matt has shown that if one truly believe's in what they are doing then there can be no belittlement. Belittled is a trap for victims, not hero's.. Humility displaces such things in hero's and clarity of purpose cares not for what object is made, but rather how and why..

Really O, while your point was clear and could be interpreted as sincere for "Fine Arts" sake, the delivery was ripe with envy..

right, the "guitarness" of these beasts (I have made several - and there will be more, a double neck SG perhaps next) has little to do with their pertinence. Of course, it is tunable...thats means a little more (because it eeks a perceptible resounding when plucked) - but its true significance lies in the "presence" which has everything to do with what goes on when a perceiver steps into its immediate vicinity. So rock on, Mohler...turn it up, play it loud, on 11 and melt your face while your at it...cause thats what a sculpture should do.

Well allright. At least you didnt have a long commute. Got any pics of yours...There were only a couple already up when I was there last week. Hey, that fried chicken joint accross the street is awesome.

At least you have been spared having been the object of misinformation. A reporter, with a tape recorder and also taking notes, would likely have still ended up writing,

Hi, I do these 1 year jobs also and although the driving can be a bitch, I'm up by about 25 grand over expenses in a 5-6 year period. So yes, sales are possible and they DO happen.

Some stipends are more generous than others, but yes, well more than expenses. I keep about 4 - 6 pieces rotating out in the world at these exhibits at all times. Sales are icing on the cake if they occur...I assume it wont happen. but often I have been invited to exhibit elsewhere because of them. One thing leads to two, and so on. By the end of the year they are another part of earning a survival (which is only of secondary importance).
These traveling sculptures are reaching arms. Plus, its a chance to get the BIG ones off the lawn where they crowd and intimidate the newbies - who need their space to grow girth and confidence.:D

In all seriousness tho this is very cool. Looks much better there than it does in your yard. I have allways wondered about entering these contests for short term instalations. Thanks for the info.
