Does any one use a 3D/Cad program to design large steel sculptures? I am looking for one that is not too expensive.

Have you heard about Google "Sketchup"? It's a free download and relatively easy to use.

Rhino (www.rhino3d.com) is pretty popular for that sort of thing. If it seems too expensive, look at "Moment of Inspiration". It was developed by the same person who originally came up with Rhino, but it's somewhat less loaded down with features, and is fairly simple and intuitive: http://moi3d.com/.

I've been learning Rhino on the advice of a friend. You can download the evaluation version for free; it is the same as the regular version, except you can only save your work 25 times. I'm new to this sort of thing, and it is taking me a while to master the tutorials, but it seems very well suited for what I hope to use it for.

I'd love to hear comparisons of other programs from some of you that have been playing in this field for a while.

Hi Wolff

looking at your work you may like ZBrush. I have just got it recently and love it. It's the closest thing to virtual clay I have found. It's also cheaper than Rhino.

I've been using Rhino3-d for years to design large steel and aluminum sculptures and it is awesome! See my site for examples. Feel free to email me for more info.
