I'd like to know how many stone sculptors are out there...

Stone specific. That includes ANYONE doing stone only.
Chime-in, post a link or work, come out of the shadows (incognito) if you will.

I work esclusively in stone - apart from the bases and plinths which are sometimes wood or acrylic.

I also run workshop/classes in stone sculpting and have just spent the last week or so redeveloping a website to show an interactive course calendar for 2009 and online paying option.
One of the workshops this coming year will be on 'how to plan and sculpt a mobius loop in stone'.

I will probably get kicked out of the 'magic circle' for giving away secrets ;)

Well, we have already met, but here I am. I'm no pro yet, but working on it. Doing fairly well in my quest so far. As you know from my posts, I've got a lot to learn still. The creativity is there and my skills are catching up.....I think anyhow.

I carve mostly soapstone, serpentine etc. I also occasionally work old bone, antler, etc. when I'm in the mood for something more prolific.

I've noticed there are not many of us stone workers on this site, or like you imply, they are hiding. :D It seems many artists are afraid of the potential health hazards of stone. Which is warranted, but can be overcome as I am learning. The prolem is, when your first start working with it, as I learned the hard way, you are likely going to expose yourself to dust.

I hope others chime in, cause I need more tips! :)

I will most assuredly view this video. I still have a hard time wrapping my head around a pure mobius, though I have been successful in carving a couple.
Although it is not my style, I admire the tactile and asthetic symmetry of form and endless variations possible within the mobius shape.

I’d like to say I only work in stone, but to be politically correct I have to admit many affairs with wood and metal. I’m so ashamed. :D:D:D

Hi Mark,

Am doing my part for pollution by clouding up the East Coast with my stone dust. I have been known to make some wood furniture every two years or so. But primarily a stone slut.:D

I used to be only stone, but I was seduced by other materials . . . what is the saying, "One's too many but a hundred aren't enough?"

They were talking about materials, right? <grin>

I have been trying it, but I am not sure if i would consider myself a sculptor yet. I have a few pics on here.

Your posted works already declare that you are. Your mind just needs to catch up with what your body already knows and accept the obvious facts.

I am a fair-weather sculptor here in a very cold England. I would do more if I had an indoor studio but hey we can't all have what we want all of the time can we?
Only just started to exhibit this year but loving every bit of it. Roll on the summer! I have so many ideas brewing can't wait to get the tools out again.

In the meantime I'm painting or I'd go mad.

Happy sculpting
Ciao

I also work predominately in stone (various marbles and limestones) with various medium (pigmented bees wax, wood, leather, sheet metal, glass, bronze and iron casted pieces or what ever seems to belong to the piece) embedded within.

Stone is what I started sculpting with, and 90% of what I do is still stone or stone / other material combos... When people ask, I always say I'm a stone sculptor...
