Creative Capital Grant
Michael Rees and his team have received a supplementary grant from the Creative Capital foundation. This supplementary grant is to further develop the Sculptural User Interface (SUI). The SUI is a language form generation machine. Imagine for a moment, as a child, your building blocks were not bound by the rules of your room. That gravity and the dog would have no effect. Imagine if you could begin building your very own space station without a care in the world. Now imagine you want to see your creation from the top or the bottom or spin it around or see it fly.

Greensboro, NC Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition
So how does an artist move a large sculpture cross-country? Reven Marie Swanson drove her whimsical "Moon Creature" from Denver in a truck. It's displayed between the Greensboro Cultural Center, YWCA and Central Library.Nicole Beck knew that it would be too costly and tricky to transport her planned 3,000-pound, 13-foot, fabricated steel sculpture from Chicago. So she ordered the steel from Williams Steel Co. in Greensboro and had it delivered to Gallucci's studio. She built the piece in a grueling 4-1/2 days. "Sunstruck" can be found in Youth Plaza Park near the Greensboro Historical Museum. The black and blue sculpture resembles either two halves of a sun with rays or eyeballs with lashes.Although Beck would like to sell it for $20,000, she wants to take it to other East Coast shows first. "The more art you have out there, the more interest that can be generated in your portfolio," she says.Charles Wright wouldn't mind selling his "Story & Clark" piano sculpture for a negotiable $12,000. For now, Blandwood director David Whitehead hopes it attracts visitors to the 19th-century home of Gov. John Motley Morehead. The Greensboro Artists' League wants people to buy. Sculptures range in price from $750 to $25,000, with many in the $1,000 to $10,000 range. The Artists' League gets a third of sale proceeds, which will help keep the annual exhibition going. "We need to get to the point where this is self-supporting," Copeland-Burns said.
