“Couple by Attitude” was cast using two techniques; green sand and lost wax in a ceramic slip. The triangular flat piece was cast in green sand using the scapula of a beef yearling as the model. The three other elements were cast as lost wax using a river stone for the round head and a piece of live oak from other projects {Adam and Eve, and Wave Chair on my web page} for the clothing. The patinas are first a copper sulfate solution on the heated surface of the bronze then shoe polish on a not so hot surface. The trick is to get the heat just right

Rob,

Very interesting...

How did you happen upon using shoe polish as part of a patina?

Seems serendipitous! :)

Also, I really enjoyed "she is a sacred space," from your site. Is it attached to a floor base?

Best regards!

Dear Obseq

The shoe polish is something I learned from Francois Boland, a friend and fellow fiend of the fire. Francois was one of the founders of a group or collective called ESCARTGO. For the francophone among us it is a jeu de mot on escargots (snail), the mascot of Namur, Belgium, and art. The foundry is at St. Servais a furbourg of Namur. Therefore the name. I, unfortunately am no longer in Belgium and that is quite another story And I do love to spin a yarn, but enough.

It is interesting that you picked up on “ …Sacred Space” from “Couple…”. They are both part of a group called “I Am A Scared Space” a “Chappell to Humanism” composed of four couples; “He and She Are Scared Spaces” the guardians that stand (Yes, there is a base, Obseq.) at each end of the couple “Wave Chair and Table” where are placed “Couple by…”. Number four in the Trinity (no Trinity compleat without them) are the couple “Observer and Observed”, i.e. the person seated in the chair and the objects around. Perhaps some where down the road I’ll find the sous (small change) to do Them All in bronze mounted on a stainless steel platform.
