A project: anyone interested in meeting up in Carrara, Italy, for a two-week sculptfest? Sculpt in marble (Carrara!), wood or clay, or in fact bronze, with the help of the best of Italian sculptors!

I can cost it. 10 sculptors would be fine, and up to 15 would work OK.

Meet at the foot of the Apuan Alps and indulge in real Italian hospitality. Meet people who care about sculpture, and make great work! Eat in Carrara, and spend time in Pietrasanta! Maybe a trip to Florence.

Issue of travel: from Europe and UK: very cheap (I am travelling to Carrara in October for £35 return incl. of taxes). Not sure about travelling from America.

So: express an interest.

I am headed to my foundry in Bologna around the 02 Oct , I would be pleased to stop by and say hello, have a cup of coffee or even a meal and meet up, it is not far out of my way and it would be nice to put face to a name. But then I would have to be off to the foundry.
What is your timing like.

I will be in Carrara from 17 October to 31 October. Short trip to get going on a new piece of work. It would be good to make contact. Certainly a get together would be good (as would the food and wine) and we can put you up overnight.

However, you seem to be in Italy rather earlier than me. If it turns out to be a possibility, I can offer contact details, here in England, and in Carrara.

You mention your foundry. In Carrara I will be spending some time with Usama Romhein, who has recently set up a bronze casting foundry here, in the mountains above Carrara. Of interest?

What will you be working on?

Sorry I will miss you, I would love to see another foundry and see what you are working on, meet some other sculptors and visit their ateliers (if possible, I don't want to intrude) Carrara is only a 3 hour drive for me so it is certainly possible. I might be able to arrive Friday the 20th and stay the night, (I know the hotel there so I can book that for my girlfriend and I if we need to, again I don't want to intrude), then can view the foundry on the 21st and I will zip back at the end of the day. Lets pencil it in and see what happens. I have to go to Bologna to Venturi Arte Foundry to repair 12 waxes, 9 are my Fragment Series and are for a show that I will be doing in London at South Molton Lane, next year. Getting all my ducks lined up as I need to shoot the catalogue and stuff.
Lets stay in touch my email is blake@blake.at

This sounds good - I will email Carrara today to see if Usama is in Carrara for 20/21st, and check up about accommodation at the studio.

I will be in Florence for several months after Sept. 28th, and while my schedule won't permit me to travel to where you are, do you think you might post future opportunities here? Are those who have never carved (I work in clay) welcome?

Hi Ajoysisk

Yes, I will propose one or two meeting-up dates next year. Amateur sculptors are welcome (I have only been sculpting in stone for three years myself, and complete beginners will love the experience in Carrara). I now just rent space in Carrara. Beginners would need to book onto a course, as an introduction to the craft, with excellent help from great local sculptors. We would all be working at the same studio, though, and you would have lots of people to help and get out and about with.
