Hello,
I'm new to these forums, and to sculture aswell (well I did a sculpture elective, but that doesnt count). I have envisioned this idea for a body sculpture, but not sure as to best way of going about it.
My idea:
My idea is to make a life-sized sculpture of my body that will have peices of paper (found object type pieces of paper) stuck randomly (but covering) the entire body. When I say entire body I actually mean the whole body except the head. I'm not focusing on minor details such as seperate fingers and toes or belly button, I'm more interested in the shape of the body and the curves.
I'm also hoping to hang this item in the end, so it probably wouldnt be wise to make it with plaster. Ideally it would be a cardboard-like shell of my body, hard enough to stick/paste these papers whilst also being light enought to hang... think paper version of something like Ah XIan's bust porcelain sculptures..
what I have tried:
I wrapped plastic around my leg up to my knee and stuck it in place. I then proceeded to paste sample papers (with double sided tape) to this plastic wrap (doing a few layers for strength) and also covering the whole area with no blank bits even under the foot. when this was done I snipped one side of this wrap down, enough to slip my foot out, I then tried taping it back. the shape and front aesthetics looked great! however, the snipping at the back/side looked very obvious, and i couldnt tape other papers over it because it was too soft and fragile.
hmmm dilemma.
If anyone has any suggestions, I would much appreciate it. I know it sounds a bit amatuer using paper, plastic and tape. maybe theres other materials...
cheers,
Chi
