Ok, this is definitely off topic stuff, so thought it might be the best place to post it.
In December we were called to help a local radio station here in Baltimore with a project. The two DJ's in the afternoon are comedians. Clowning around one day they decided it would be good to reproduce the bust of the female DJ - Amelia, of the Mickey and Amelia show. Basically she lost the bet. So eventually someone called us, not surprising, and of course we said yes, also not surprising.
So we went down to the station one afternoon and live on the radio - we laser scanned her...bust, topless of course. We proceeded to create a nice 3D digital version of her in the form of a classical marble sculpture. We then had this RP'd as a pattern (life-size), made a rubber mold, then poured liquid marble to cast a marble 'bust of her bust.'
The piece is now for sale on eBay at http://cgi.ebay.com/Amelia-Bust_W0QQitemZ9323640654QQcategoryZ553QQssPageName ZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting or search for "Amelia Bust" on eBay.
All efforts were performed pro bono with all money going to our our local Maryland Zoo in Baltimore. We also have nice images of the project and 3D interactive visualization on our website at http://www.dirdim.com/port_featuredprojects.htm.
It's a bit different, even for us, but the project providing a lot of exposure (sorry!) for our digital technologies. And its actually a very nice (and accurate!) piece.
I am curious on comments.
