I just bought this book, by John Plowman, and I love it! It is such an easy reference guide, it covers all sorts of surfaces and how to achieve them. It is very encompassing and also has some neat ideas that I might never have considered.

Anyone else have it? It is new, released in 2005, and cost $30 but was worth it.

I particularly like how the book is divided into various media...such as stone, wood, ceramic, etc. Then within each other it has thumbnail pictures of the different surfaces that can be achieved for each medium. And next to each one is a brief description of how to achieve that texture.

I'll keep an eye out for it in bookshops. I have Plowman's earlier book, The Encyclopedia of Sculpting Techniques, and I sometimes refer to it.

By the way, in Amazon.com, the Sculptor's Bible costs US$19.

My guess is the lower priced one is a paperback. The one I bought was hardcover.
