Hi everyone,
Just curious to see how many of you out there swing to the introverted side or the very outgoing bubbling forth personality.
As for me I'm a combo of both. I can spend hours on end all by myself sculpting and perfectly content. And I'm sometimes shy in person depending on who it is. But then, I can be very assertive and "out there" sometimes. Over all though I'd say I'm definitely more on the introverted side.
Aren't most artists introverts (either that or eccentric)?

Yes, definitely an introvert. Had to work at small talk, like what you have at gallery openings, and now can function in those situations, but am still more comfortable one on one, or with my partner and son, or alone in my studio.

introvert . . . unless you ask me about sculpture, and then you have to shut me up.

I'm introvert. I don't speak much except when teaching, and I prefer writing. I go for details and remain focused, but have to take a break from time to time to de-focus and activate my mind.

Well I guess I will be the odd ball, all bubbles here.I am pretty upbeat ,and I get all fired up easy when talking about sculpture, ect.Born with a gift of gab, runs in the family,we are people persons, although at times I prefere to be around my animals, dogs, cats, goats, and chickens, and all the other wild critters lurking on the back 40......................................

I guess I lean toward the extroverted side.
I’m not shy at all and will take on a conversation with almost any stranger on the street or in a store. I enjoy flashing my smile at anyone–homeless person or congressman–whomever is open to it.

Well, just an update.
2 votes have came in for being extroverts and 5 on the introverted side. Now you extroverts have got to be eccentric  cuz you can't be an artist if you're not one or the other. Introverted or eccentric or both! :D

This is how I analyse this interesting question. Artists who like realism in figurative sculptures may be the introvertive type, as they have to pay meticulous attention to small details. The extrovertive artists on the other hand would go for the flamboyant abstract works.

Merlion,I don't know about "Flamboyant abstract works" if you are extrovertive. My work has meticulous attention payed to fabricating and finishing work.I guess my work is not really abstact though, but figurative its not.
Eccentric?Well living in the mountains, studio at home, kids and animals about, driving beat up old truck, dress for comfort not style, thats not too eccentric? Most of the really good artist where I went to art school where very introvertive, they could not handle dealing with galleries and people like I could, don't know why.I"aint skerd" to approach galleries,or hussle up shows and work, thats half of the game.I don't care how good you are,you have to get your work out and be able to network to your market in your area,or out of town......

I guess I'm all skrewed up....cause like I said earlier, I'm more of an introvert by nature, but my work is LARGE scale and ABSTRACT for the most part. And like Iron Ant, I "ain't skerd" either when it comes to getting out there and hustling up work at gallery openings and the like. I just know it goes with the territory, and play it like a game, even though it goes against my natural tendencies.

If an individual is introvertive or extrovertive by nature, it doesn't mean that the work will match their personality trait. That being said, any artist who takes pride in what they create will pay meticulous attention to small details.

Introverted or eccentric or both! :DI did fail to mention that I am a little eccentric. I have a strong sense to provide and take care of my family that out ways my need to express my eccentricity. If I had more money I might be more than a little. lol!
One of my dearest artist friends that has earned a living off his art for 30 years is an extravert, a minimulist, and perhaps a bit eccentric in his thinking.

I'm an FS but take the middle ground. Depends on the mood.
Outgoing all the way!! I get a kick out of how people are so surprised I weld art work...They always say I dont look like an artist or act like one..
Im not sure what i should look like or act like..Its just whats inside of me...

Very well said, GWayne.
The resolve to see an idea to physical fruition isn't dependent on any inclination towards the reclusive or the overtly expressive.

I have taken Myers Briggs tests and that sort of thing, and always they say the same thing: I am exactly on the line...which I could have told you without any test. I love solitude and down time, and I love a party and socializing too.
I like balance.

As a realist in youth I was a definite extrovert, now days as an abstract artist and moving into sculptural work I seem to be introverted - so much so that people are always telling me to get out. *L*
