The Iron Guild would like to invite you to join us at Scuptfest, September 17th at The Carving Studio and Sculpture Center in West Rutland, VT.
Scuptfest is an annual event held for the last seven years, presents large-scale, outdoor installations. The Carving Studio is located on the grounds of a granite quarry
This year’s Sculptfest reception will feature a site-specific performance by the Iron Guild. On of a slope overlooking a 400ft deep quarry, we will construct an iron furnace out of natural materials and cast iron into the quarry below. This performance will be accompanied by the sounds of a fire organ, an instrument that transforms the heat from a flame into sound.
The initial tap of the furnace, when we will first release the iron, is scheduled for around 7:00pm, but visitors should arrive a few hours before to see the outdoor sculptures, to watch us burning in and charging the furnace, and to get front-row standing room for the big event!
