Hello,

I am pursuing my PhD in a science field, but am a serious evening and weekend sculptor in stone. I started sculpting many years ago, but picked up stone about 5 years ago and have been hooked since. I enjoy carving by hand or pneumatic chisels and try to stay away from rotary tools as much as possible. I live near Athens, GA and would be interested in other local sculptors for dialog, et cetera.

Also, I am organizing a stone workshop for this area to be held in late spring. If you are in my area and are interested, drop me an email.

Regards to all,
Joe V.

Hey you are in a great spot to hook up with a great program.UGA has the studies abroad program in Cortona Italy, which I attended in 1985.There should be a lot of folks around that area still carving. Also, nelson GA in where the GA. Marble Co. is.They will let you buy off the yard, way cheap.I think last time I was ther I payed A dollar a piece for big chuncks. If you get a chance go to Cortona,or hook up with Barbra Riengrover in Canton. She has been carving a long time, teaches, and lived the summer in Italy to hone her craft.Nobody does it better then the Italians. It only took me one summer to realize I would stick with being a metal sculptor.Good luck I ,If I can help drop me a buzz...
