Hi diehard 3 dimensionalists. Well, 3 months after earning my MFA, I'm still alive and kicking in NYC. I've been in 3 group shows so far, and the next will be on October 1st at 508 W. 26th Street, 9th floor, 6-12 pm. You'll see large, recent work there. Also, my website has been much improved. visit http://www.TedTStanke.com to see for yourself.

Hey Ted, the new site looks good. I thought to myself, "Wow, it is much improved!" The Barbantulas in particular made me chuckle out loud. And the Catfish has a nice presence to it. I'm not by nature a fan of assemblage, but I really like your work. For you, it is a means to create humorous and tactile sculpture and not an ends for hackneyed, lazy work. Just goes to show it's not the medium but the character of the artist.
Take some pics of the shows for us to check out as well. Keep up the work.
Ted,
The work is exciting and your website shows it well. You and Araich have both wisely chosen to drop out the backgrounds, which makes the forms really stand out - no distractions. Your pieces have better color than most found object sculpture does. Looks good and sounds like you're really moving along. Congratulations.

Ted,
First, congratulations on your MFA!
Second, the new site looks great--Like JAZ, I agree that the images stand out better against a bare background.
I saw you drop a post on the Los Angeles Craiglist, Artists' Page a few weeks back. I certainly did a double take. ;)
After having a look at your work in greater depth, I see that much of it stirs some engaging possibilties regarding the uncanny.

Hi Ted, I finally checked out your web site. I'm very impressed by the found object assemblage work that you do. I think you've taken that genre to a new level. I find the work refreshing, as an antidote to the "spit & polish" fine finish that seems to be in vogue today. Now if you can only find a gallery owner willing to take a chance, I think you'll do great in N.Y.C. Your work is powerful and has a lot of feeling in it. New York's a tough town but I wish you much success in your next show in Chelsea and in the future. Nice web site too!
Have a nice day,
Jeff

And I'm sure you will be the next "thing" in the sculpture world.
It will not be easy for you – but try to stay with us .

Hi ARAICH ,
I don't want to be a rude, but I will – this forum need a provocative item from time to time –
I like your work - I PAID ATTENTION TO EVERY ONE OF THEM – THEY ARE special and unique. They are beautiful and beautiful balanced, too mach balanced in my test, and they are in good fitness – look like they are going every day to a gymnasium - to be ready, to be ready to the next client.
YOU are to much organized , thinking to mach, polishing and shining, and burnishing, pay attention to every detail , to the final touch up, keeping every thing in your control – It's look like you are afraid – afraid of loosing control.
I don't know – you are so mach talented – that you don't need to think about something different something more - that you don't need anything more.
Forgive my English, and forgive me – I did not mean to heart anyone- just to understand more.
Too mach balanced too mach control.

Shlomo,
I don't think Araich was insulting you. As you can see, he inserted the, :D to let everyone know that is comment was meant to be lighthearted.
Take care

Yes Shlomo, I too thought that Araich was paying you a compliment. I do think you're right about this forum needing a provacative item from time to time.
I also like Araich's work, Asymmetrical yet well balanced and with feeling. I find the finish on his pieces astounding. I think he raises the bar a notch or two when it comes to well made, extremely well finished sculpture. The only problem with painted sculpture (I sometimes spray paint mine, but I hate the process) is that every time you move them, they get scratched or chipped. My solution, work in stainless steel!
There is a certain pressure being applied today (by galleries, clients, etc.) to do highly finished work and I think that Araich (I don't mean to speak for you) is just responding to that as well as his own inner drive as a truly Professional sculptor. Perhaps, Shlomo, you are right about TOO MUCH control and balance in the work. I know you didn't mean any of that as an insult to him but just as FOOD FOR THOUGHT. I do think you have brought up a valid point though as Araich seems to dot every "i" and cross every "t", but that's him and that's the way he expresses himself. That's what separates all of us. "personal expression" IS what it's all about! Look at the difference between his work and Ted T Stanke's work, WOW! Both teriffic sculptors but at opposite ends of the spectrum!
It'll be interesting to see where this thread goes.
Have a great day,
Jeff

Hey,
I understood that Erich didn't mean to insult me at the first plase, and I hope you guys, and especially you Erich, weren't offended by me trying to be more critical than the usual in this forum.
I like your work, Erich, and that was the reason I responded to them emotionally.
I'm sure you are strong and tough enough to get this kind of criticism.
It is not important, and it is no significant, especially in this kind of forum, to react only positively.

LOL! I didn't see this until now, but rather than mess up Ted's thread, I'll split my reply off to here (http://www.sculpture.net/community/showthread.php?p=6851#post6851).
