Hello there!!

Anyone out there know of a broker/insurance agent who works with liability for large, outdoor public sculptures?? There are some in NYC but their prices are crazy.

Thanks!!!

John,
The New England Sculptor's Association can tell you who they use. They covered a show I was in that they didn't organize, but many of their members had been accepted into. www.nesculptors.org
Also, if the work is sited in a public area the city or venue should cover it while it's there. A sculpture venue I coordinate just covered a six sculpture show for the next year and for them to do it it's a matter of adding a rider to an existing policy, which is very much cheaper than an individual trying to get a policy. It was only $467 for the exhibit I just mentioned for a plan that has a $250 deductible and covering theft, vandalism, and liability for $1,000,000 for one instance and max of $3,000,000 altogether for liability. These works were not enourmously expensive - the highest value being I think $11,000, but that will give you a ball park idea. I had to argue for it, but succeeded (after persistence) in convincing them that it was the right thing to do.

Hey, ten points for you! Somehow I missed that article and it's right there on the bookshelf. Very useful info for all of us.
